The Manager of Community Support oversees areas that bring in external revenue: individual membership, major giving, planned giving, corporate support, and community engagement to KMOS PBS. Including supervision of staff in all areas of community support such as but not limited to goal-setting and benchmarking for fundraising efforts, monthly tracking and reporting of progress toward financial goals, ensuring station compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) underwriting regulations regarding, and development of the station community engagement and plan.

 Examples of Duties

  • Oversees the membership team to guide fundraising activities, including individual giving, major giving, and planned giving.
  • Oversees community engagement efforts, including the development of marketing plans, execution of special events, and the development and recruitment of volunteers.
  • Supervises corporate support efforts, providing guidance on all elements of sales activities, including packaging, rate structure, and inventory analysis.
  • Works with promotions team members to ensure that fundraising priorities are represented in all areas of promotion including On-Air, Online, Social Media and other emerging media.
  • Works with the Director of Broadcasting Services to guide overall direction of community support efforts by providing regular progress reports on fundraising goals, developing strategic plans for fundraising areas, assessing fundraising efforts and results, and participating in the budgeting process.
  • Coordinates responses either directly or through staff to donor inquiries.
  • Represents KMOS PBS as needed at community events, speaking engagements, meetings, and public presentations.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses and conferences, and attending training and/or courses as required.
  • Contributes to the overall success of KMOS PBS by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
     

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, Broadcasting, or related required.
  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, Broadcasting, or related field preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of hand-on experience in fundraising, membership, sales or related field required.
  • Four (4) years of experience with development activities such as major gifts, donations or member cultivation preferred.
  • Experience in public radio or television will be an advantage.

 

Salary: $72,000.00 annually

MEMBER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Description

Processes philanthropic donations to KMOS-TV through membership, underwriting, pledge drives and all other Public Television fundraising. This position is an important part of the community support team which  will ensure that all donations and payments are documented and posted in a timely manner. The KMOS PBS Member Support Specialist will  process all gifts made to KMOS-PBS into the KMOS Allegiance database.  This position will process member support queries and communications as well as ensuring that member donation information, including payments, are accurate and current.  

 Examples of Duties

Record and acknowledge all philanthropic gifts and pledges received by the Foundation through multiple sources including: -100%

  • Verify funds received through all sources including checks deposited, online credit card transactions, credit card transactions processed through outside sources, and securities received.
  • Process credit card payments that are called in by donors.
  • Work with members to ensure their payment information is correct and up to date. 
  • Assist in ensuring KMOS-PBS thank you gifts are ordered and mailed in a timely manner.
  • Review in-kind gift forms for accuracy and documentation of value and report information to Accounting Services.
  • Audit constituent’s biographical information and update as necessary.
  • Record gift amounts according to donor intent into the appropriate fund and include the description and fair market value of any benefits received by the donor.
  • Code each gift with the appropriate appeal, campaign, solicitor, and letter code to ensure that internal performance results are accurate and that donors are stewarded correctly.
  • Comply with Internal Revenue Service regulations as they apply to charitable giving.
  • Record pledges and commitments made by donors for future gifts.
  • Create donor tax receipts for mailing.
  • Create other donor acknowledgement letters as appropriate.
     

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Two (2) years administrative, clerical, secretarial or data entry required. 
  • Experiencing working in public television preferred. 

 

Salary: $41,600.00 annually

MANAGER OF CONTENT AND PROGRAMMING

Description

The Manager of Content and Programming is responsible for the production, acquisition, and scheduling of programming for KMOS PBS’ broadcast and digital platforms. The Manager of Content and Programming manages the production staff, promotions staff and the programming/traffic staff. The Manager of Content and Programming oversees the acquisition, scheduling, and promotion of programming from national, regional, and local sources that supports KMOS PBS’ mission and attracts, maintains, and increases viewership across platforms. This may include coordinating with third party scheduling services engaged by KMOS PBS.  Manager of Content and Programming represents the station in the community and within the public broadcasting system by building relationships with viewers, system colleagues, community leaders, university stakeholders, and content producers.  The Manager of Content and Programming will work closely with the General Manager to recruit, train and supervise the student production team and collaborate where possible with the UCM department of communications.

 Examples of Duties

  • Ensures that KMOS PBS produces and acquires programming for broadcast and digital platforms that attracts, maintains, and increases its viewing audience by providing leadership, operational controls, organization, and a creative environment for the programming and production unit.
  • Oversees program production by supervising and mentoring staff, vetting program pitches, ensuring production schedules are developed and met, managing production resources, and ensuring all local productions are accurate and high in quality.
  • Oversees station programming, including providing strategic and philosophical direction; developing and maintaining familiarity with PBS programming and public television mission and strategy; and managing the acquisition, scheduling, and promotion of programming on broadcast and digital platforms in consultation with staff and programming service to ensure fulfillment of station’s mission to serve the local community.
  • Oversees all production activities, including development, research, writing, and production of local series and documentaries and completion of contract production projects for internal and external clients. Works collaboratively with KMOS PBS’ development unit on production of local underwriting announcements, production of local fundraising messages; and production of promotional announcements for sponsored local programs.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of digital delivery platforms, in order to develop and implement multi-platform audience cultivation strategy.
  • Provides station management with regular analysis of audience data, identifying trends, opportunities, and threats to inform station investments in content and technology.
  • Serves on station leadership team, representing the television programming and production unit and facilitating interdepartmental collaboration to ensure organizational priorities and objectives are met.
  • Participates in community and professional organizations, representing the station at professional meetings, serving on community committees, and establishing and maintaining relationships with local and area news media and the general public.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the General Manager.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the organization by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
     

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Broadcasting, Communication, or related field required.
  • Education may be substituted for experience or experience substituted for education based on the following equivalencies:  AA = 2 years; BA/BS = 4 years; MA/MA = 6 years; PhD = 8 years.

 

Experience:

  • Two (2) years in television programming or branding department required.
  • Experience in PBS station preferred.
