Writing Guide
Children love stories and they love to draw. The Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest is a terrific opportunity for children in Kindergarten through third grade to share their stories and illustrations.
The KMOS-TV Outreach Department is excited and proud to announce the 14th Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. Children are encouraged to send their illustrated stories to KMOS between now and March 10, 2008. KMOS -- University of Central Missouri Public Broadcasting Complete entry rules. For more information email the outreach department or call 660-543-8922.
Each story received by KMOS-TV will be carefully read and evaluated by a panel of judges. While the judges vary from year to year, they are all very well qualified to evaluate your entries. The judges often come from elementary classrooms, some are published children's literature authors, and quite often they are both. They generously volunteer their time to read and evaluate each and every story submitted.
The contest is judged locally and a first, second and third place prize is awarded in each grade level. Every entry receives thank-you gifts and a Certificate of Participation. Every entrant will receive an invitation to the annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers Award Ceremony held on the University of Central Missouri campus to receive their awards and gifts. This year's ceremony will take place April 20, 2008.
Local winning stories are featured on the KMOS website. First place stories are sent on to the national contest for consideration as a national winner. In past years, KMOS entries have been featured on PBS children's programming, such as ZOOM, or been included on the national READING RAINBOW website.
