Happy Healthy Missouri Kids Recognized by Corporation for Public Broadcasting
KMOS collaborated with community partners to develop a grassroots initiative promoting healthier lifestyles for Missouri's children. KMOS trained and facilitated partners to conduct workshops educating parents and caregivers about the importance of healthier choices for their children's wellbeing. Community partners and station staff conducted over 200 workshops focusing on a variety of children's health issues such as nutrition, immunization, fitness, hand sanitization and communicable diseases; reaching over 9,000 families.
For its leadership on this project, KMOS-TV is being honored as recipient of the 2009 My Source Community Impact Award for Engagement from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). This national award recognizes the KMOS community engagement and service provided through the Happy Healthy Missouri Kids project.
Representatives of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting came to Warrensburg on October 28 and 29 to present the award to station and university officials. CPB Board Member Lori Gilbert and Doug McKenney, CPB Director of Public Awareness Initiative made presentations during a reception at the White Rose Pavilion, and during the UCM Board of Governors and KMOS/KTBG Community Advisory Board meetings.
They also met with many of the community partners who worked hard on the initiative
